The A380 aircraft ordered will be delivered to Emirates from 2020. Together with the company’s fleet of 101 A380 aircraft and its current order book of 41 aircraft, this new order enhances Emirates’ commitment to the A380 program for 178 aircraft worth 60 billion dollars.
This particular premium economy configuration on A380 supports some of the best optimized multi-class layouts.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Emirates Group and Emirates Airline, already signed a memorandum of understanding with John Leahy, Commercial Director of Airbus Commercial Aircraft, at the airline’s Dubai headquarters.
Sheikh Ahmed said “It is no secret that the A380 has been a success for Emirates. Our passengers love it and we can use it on different missions throughout our network, giving us flexibility in terms of range and diversity of passengers. “He added:” Some of the new A380s we just ordered will be used in substitutions in the fleet. This order will bring stability to the A380 production line. We will continue to work closely with Airbus to further improve the aircraft and the product on board”.
“I would like to thank Emirates, Sheikh Ahmed, Tim Clark and Adel Al-Redha for their continued support of the A380,” said John Leahy, Commercial Director of Airbus Commercial Aircraft. “This aircraft has made a huge contribution to the growth and success of Emirates since 2008 and we are very excited to continue to do so. This new order highlights Airbus’ commitment to producing the A380 for at least another ten years. I believe that more applications will follow Emirates’ example and that this excellent aircraft will be in full swing in the 2030s. “
Emirates’ partnership with Airbus has been around for decades. Emirates is by far the largest operator of the A380 in the world, with currently 101 A380 aircraft in service. As of mid-July 2017, Emirates operates to 141 destinations in 75 countries across six continents from its hub in Dubai. It has a particularly strong presence in the South and Southeast Asian region, which together connect Dubai with more international destinations in the region than any other Middle Eastern airline.
