Downtown Detroit welcomes the first hospitality project from the local luxury brand. By the end of the year, this place will be a totally different thing. Shinola will inaugurate their newest hotel project which transforms two vintage buildings into a 129-room hotel complex with an events space, a coffee shop, a restaurant, and a unique bar.

The beauty of this hotel relies on a 1916 terra cotta–faced structure witch it will be recreated by Boston Valley Terra Cotta. Over the years, the incredible building’s windows had been filled with cinder blocks and the interior stripped of its original detail, however, these are going to be reconstructed in order to maintain their original shape and beauty. Since SHINOLA is a brand recognized by their high-quality watches, it was important to restore the clock on the exterior corner of the building.
The interior design look is as promising as the architectural details. In this design project, SHINOLAS‘ design team will create something that represents the brand’s luxury style with a modern look.
The hotel’s interior design is a tribute to all-American craftsmanship, since the Amish-made furniture and millwork, all the way to the Michigan-made Serta mattresses and the Heath Ceramics dishware on the restaurant.
The goal of this luxury project is to capture the sense of craft in an authentic way. It’s like the brand’s design team, throughout their creations, were uncovering an ancient history.
